Pro Fisherman Tom Redington Reels in Scouts for 2nd FLW Tour Event

Unknown-3Professional fisherman Tom Redington and the BSA are jumping to seven cities for the 2015 Walmart FLW Tour, along with 154 of the top professional bass anglers in the country. After a successful first event in Kissimmee, Fla., the crew packed up their fishing equipment and headed to Jasper, Ala. for the second stop in the tournament circuit on Lewis Smith Lake, March 26 – 29.

“Lewis Smith has exploded on the scene as a top fishery due to the introduction of blueback herring as a new food source for the bass and this was the coming out party for the much larger size of fish,” said Redington.

With a slew of large fish flooding the waters, Redington banked quite an impressive batch of fish. Just a few pounds shy of contention, his heaping pile amounted to over 21 pounds from just two days of fishing. The top 20 anglers fished Saturday and the top 10 continued on to the finals on Sunday.

Unknown-8“Prior to the weigh-in, local Scouts and I staffed the BSA booth at the lakeside Expo, talking to fishing fans and local families about all the exciting opportunities Scouting offers and recruiting for local troops,” shared Redington. “Samples of BSA popcorn were a big hit!”  Redington also signed autographs and met with current and former Scouts.

Thanks to the efforts of the Black Warrior Council, a flurry of local Scouts attended the festivities. Scouts were able to fish in a special restricted part of the lake (with assistance from the pros!) and those who caught fish won free fishing poles. Other exciting activities included casting competitions, a backyard BBQ contest, a bass boat simulator and demo rides on 70+ mph bass boats, just like the pros drive!

Any fishing fans in Arkansas want to join in on the excitement? The next Walmart FLW Tour tournament stops at Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark., April 23 -26. All local Scouts and their families are welcome to attend! Free rods and reels will go out to the first 150 children under 14 on Saturday and Sunday, and the whole family can catch a free concert by Backroad Anthem on Sunday. Be sure to stop by the Expo at the Hammons Convention Center on the final two days of the event for the chance to hang out at the BSA booth with Redington and local Scouts.
