Girl Scouts to take over Boy Scout Summit Aug. 16

Programs at the Summit Bechtel Reserve are in full swing, as you can see in this story by Wendy Holdren of the Register-Herald.

Girls may be made of sugar, spice and everything nice, but that doesn’t mean they can’t gear up and take part in some high adventure activities.

The Girl Scouts will take over the Boy Scouts of America’s Summit Bechtel Reserve Aug. 16 for a day of ziplining, mountain biking, rappelling and more.

“When people think of Girl Scouts, they think cookies, camping and crafts,” said Jennifer Brown, director of community engagement for the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond. “But it’s so much more than that. It’s an entrepreneurship program for girls, which creates strong, future leaders.”

Brown said it’s important for girls to have the same opportunities as boys as they’re growing up, and for them to become confident in themselves and their abilities.

She credits Dedriell Taylor, director of Girl Leadership Experience, for making this event possible.

The high adventure day will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Girl Scouts and their families will be able to participate in the following activities: Scout Visitor’s Center, Wetlands Boardwalk, Mountain Biking, Skate Park, BMX Tracks, Duck Shooting, Bouldering, Ziplines, Sporting Arrows, Rappelling, Canopy Tours, Challenge Course, Archery Range and the Consol Energy Bridge.

Girl Scout members can get a child action pass for ages 6 to 11 for $30. Those 12 and up can get passes for $50 by using the coupon code GSAWV when they make reservations.
